First flight with your Phantom 3 Phantom 4 or Yuneec Q500 drone
Are you unboxing your first brand new drone and preparing for your very first flight?
Read on to find out some useful tips that will help you enjoy your drone experience be a good one!
I cannot stress enough, for your first flight, give yourself a big area to take off and land.
When planning a flight, never fly near airports or helicopter landing pads and if you see an aeroplane or helicopter while flying your drone, land immediately, see the CASA website for more information.
Also contained in these tips are some useful ideas that will serve you well each and every time you fly.
1) When you first unbox the drone, put the flight batteries on charge as they are shipped about half charged.
2) The controller/transmitter, pop that on charge too while you check everything else out.
3) Always let the controller power up before turning the drone on. (always put the micro SD card in the camera before powering up the drone)
4) Always make sure the drone is on level ground before turning the power on because the gimbal/camera will find it’s level as it powers up. And remember to always take the camera/gimbal cover or gimbal lock off first
5) Calibrate the GPS watch this video:
if you have a DJI Phantom 3 (turn your volume up) click here
if you have a Yuneec Q500 click here
6) Time to put the propellers on:
for the Yuneec Q500 there are 2x A and 2x B and the props and motors are marked, A is left hand thread and B is right hand thread, tighten firmly by hand.
For the Phantom 3 simply match the white or black propellors with the same motor colour and tighten firmly by hand or “click” on if Phantom 4.
7) Give yourself a big landing and take off area for your first flight!!
8) Mode 1, the left stick moves the drone up and down and pans left and right in.
9) In mode 1, the right stick moves the drone in the direction that you move the stick.
